company history
Founded in 1907 as the Peerless Tool Company, we first supplied automotive cable applications in 1924. Then during the second world war as British Wire Products, we supplied torpedo nets for the Royal Navy and control cables for the Royal Air Force.

Since 1967 the company has been located in Baldwin Road and was renamed Acco Control Cables after its acquisition. By 1970 the business had focused on the growing automotive market in Europe for brake, clutch, throttle and other mechanical control cables. In the 1980s it was acquired by Babcock, and later became part of the FKI Automotive Division, originally supplying aftermarket, tractor, truck and industrial customers.

In 1987 the Baldwin Road business became an OEM supplier when it won a major contract from Nissan UK for cables. Soon followed Ford, Toyota and Honda. In 1997 a new plant was established to produce all the high volume OEM work at Worcester Road, Stourport on Severn. The aftermarket and industrial work remained at the Baldwin Road plant. In 1997 the plants were acquired by DURA.

In 2001 the Nissan light cable OE production was initially transferred from Worcester Road to Baldwin Road, then in 2002 to Guarda, Portugal. In February 2003 Magal Engineering acquired the Baldwin Road site, trading under Adwest Cables Ltd, providing a stand-alone manufacturing source for its aftermarket, industrial, agricultural and OEM cable control business.
